Once there lived a slave
in Rome named Androcles. He was caught by a slave merchant and he sold him. His
master was unkind and inflicted him heavy torture. Androcles was homesick. So
he fled away from his master's house oneday. He hid himself in a cave. One day
he crept into the cave and lay down and soon felt asleep. After a while a lion
had entered the cave. It was roaring loudly. Androcles was sure that the beast
would kill him. The lion was crying for pain in his leg. Androcles lifted the
paw from the ground and gave strong pull and also out came the thorn. The lion
relived from his pain. Next day Adrocles left the cave and started for
home. On the way Androcles was caught by his master's men. He was thrown before
a hungry lion for his punishment. People came to see the matter. The lion came
with a great roar. It could recognize Androcles. It lay down at his feet.
People asked Androcles to tell them about the matter. He told all his stories.
Both the lion and he were freed. The lion and Androcles got liberty.
